Chris Mautner interviews Lynda Barry

"Getting to talk to Barry about the book and her reasons for making it, as the hot dog vendors added more bags of garbage next to us, turned out to be one of the highlights of my year and I thank her profusely for taking the time to talk in such smelly situation."

Comments:
I love Lynda's work! Just listened to her interview at the poetry foundation's website!

We are studying emily dickinson now at my poetry class with Hoa Nguyen of Skanky POssum here in Austin, was so fun to hear Lynda sing "I felt a funeral in my brain"!

It made me go back and re-read cruddy again. I think Cruddy is one of the masterpieces of western literature, I'm not kidding. I really do. I've read a lot of books, and it's so haunting and perfect. It reminds me of my childhood in ways I try to forget. Thank you for writing this.

When are you writing another novel? I would buy it!

Sincerely,

Mazarine
